Good afternoon Mr Perla,

We all know April 1 as April Fool’s Day. It is a day of joking and well-crafted pranks for people all over the world. But what if one were to take the fun and excitement of this day and combine it with an appreciation for books? That is exactly what the Edible Book Festival has tried – and succeeded – in doing since 2000. The Edible Book Festival is an international event held around April 1 that creates a magical combination of books and food to celebrate readers and raise awareness about the wonderful world of reading.

And WNY Book Arts has been bringing this magic to Buffalo since 2008 with our local annual Edible Book Festival. This year our festival will be held on Saturday, March 31 at the WNY Book Arts Centre. Kids and adults will submit their edible book creations to be judged by local celebrities before the audience digs in. The festival will showcase the creativity of Buffalonians and help secure funding for us to continue our book arts education programs. It would be an honour to have you and a guest attend the festival and taste all the good writing for yourself.

Today, I am writing this email to ask you to feature our event in the Literary Events section of The Public. Your paper and website celebrate all things Western New York and I believe that this event is right up your alley. The community needs more people like you and your readers who appreciate the value of a good book and know that reading can enrich one’s life. Plus, the food is bound to be as delicious as the books it represents and your readers have a reputation for being the connoisseurs of deliciousness.

I will call you in a few days to follow up and give you the event specifics. If you are interested in learning more about our organization, I would be more than happy to answer any questions at the the Edible Book Festival.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Devyani Sawant
